Martyred Intellectuals Day
As it became apparent that Bangladesh would soon be able to reach the door of independence, Pakistani occupation forces and their local collaborators took a final attempt to wipe off Bengali pro-liberation intellectuals. Just two days ahead of the final victory, on 14 December 1971, the Pakistani army and their local collaborators like Razakar, Al-Badr, Al-Shams abducted over 200 intellectuals including educationists, physicians, writers, artists, scientists and journalists from their homes. Blindfolded, they were taken to different torture cells of Dhaka city and later executed en masse. Now, in Bangladesh, 14 December every year is observed as Shahid Buddhijibi Dibosh (Martyred Intellectuals Day) across the country to commemorate the victims. On this historic day, The Millennium University remembers the martyred intellectuals with due homage, respect, and admiration.
